University of Washington uses Husky Stadium as the home for their football program. About Washington Huskies

Football program was founded at University of Washington in 1889 while basketball program joined the college over 30 years later, in 1920. The Huskies are members of North Division in Pac- 12 Conference, NCAA Division I (FBS for football).The university has a live and a costumed mascot to represent their school. Dubs is the live Alaskan Malamute and Harry the Husky is a costumed mascot. The colours of the school are purple and gold.The two main rivals of the college are Washington State Cougars and Oregon Ducks.

Historically the football program performed fairly well bringing two national championships to the university along with 15  conference titles.The Huskies’ all- time record is 703-440-50 and the college appeared in 36 bowl games including 14 Rose Bowl games that resulted in 7 wins. The Huskies compiled a 18-17-1 Bowl record beginning with a tie against Navy in 1924 at the Rose Bowl.University of Washington is very often seen as one of the top quarterback colleges due to the long history of the signal callers playing in the NFL; all but two starting quarterbacks since 1970 have gone onto the NFL.One of the better known quarterbacks from the college was Warren Moon who played in CFL and NFL for 23 years. When he retired he held several all- time records including most passing touchdowns and most passing yards.

Moon’s best years in NFL fell around the time he played for the Oilers and then the Vikings. He was selected 9 times to Pro Bowl, he was named NFL MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 1990. He also led the league in passing touchdowns once and passing yards twice. He became the first African- American quarterback enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.Basketball program had its own share of success, appearing in 16 NCAA tournaments, including three appearances in the Elite Eight and one in the Final Four which to date remains their best place.The Huskies were three times conference tournament champions and they have won 20 conference regular season titles to date.There’s been several notable Huskies that enjoyed NBA career including players such as Detlef Schrempf and James Edwards.Schrempf was a three time NBA All- Star during his 17 seasons career that he spent playing for few teams. He was also named NBA Sixth Man of the Year in back to back seasons.Edwards was part of the “Bad Boys” team of Detroit Pistons who won two NBA championships while he played with them. He earned his third ring playing for the Bulls. He never appeared in NBA All- Star game but through his career he remained a reliable low- post scorer.University of Washington has enjoyed some team and individual success through the years and it doesn’t look like matters will change any time soon.
