Skelly Field at H. A. Chapman Stadium is the home of University of Tulsa football program. The venue, located on historic U. S. The Golden Hurricanes’ all- time record is 601-477-28 and the university took part in 20 Bowl games starting from a win against Texas Tech in 1941 at the Sun Bowl. Their latest appearance resulted in a loss to Virginia Tech at the Independence Bowl in 2015.The school produced some famous players including former politician Steve Largent and an executive of Washington Redskins, Doug Williams. Both had great careers in NFL with Largent playing 14 seasons in NFL, most of which was spent in Seattle.Largent was 7 times Pro Bowler, 3 times First Team All- Pro and NFL 1980s All- Decade Team amassing 100 receiving touchdowns in his career.

Williams, played quarterback for 12 seasons with three teams, winning Super Bowl, leading the Redskins to a win while winning the Super Bowl MVP award.Basketball program at University of Tulsa tried to keep up with the football program and the Golden Hurricanes went to 16 NCAA tournaments, 15 times since 1982. Their highest round was the Elite Eight that they reached in 2000.The university has also won six conference tournament championships and 10 conference regular season titles to date.The Golden Hurricane program produced several athletes who reached the NBA, including Jim King and Bingo Smith.King played in NBA for 11 seasons and was chosen to NBA All- Star game once. Same goes for Smith who completed 11 seasons in NBA playing for multiple teams, he surpassed 10000 points scored before retiring.

University of Tulsa, despite lacking championship titles, managed to be a competitive program in basketball and football that produced pro athletes through years who had their share of success in NBA and NFL.
