About Yo Yo Ma

Yo Yo Ma: is he a singer? Is he a songwriter or does he play any musical instrument? Yo Yo Ma comes from Paris, where is was born in 1955. But actually he is Chinese American. Yo Yo Ma studied at school in the United Satates. At the age of five years old Yo Yo Ma performed for the first time. When he entered university Yo Yo Ma has been already playing the cello and performing behind the audience. He liked it a lot, as Yo Yo Ma could travel all around the world and gain popularity among different people. Yo Yo Ma performs both as a solo artist and a member of an orchestra. Yo Yo Ma has released more than 90 music albums with his compositions; he got 18 Grammy awards. Besides, being a great cello player, Yo Yo Ma also like folk music; Yo Yo Ma recorded several songs in bluegrass music style and some traditional Chinese compositions; moreover, Yo Yo Ma collaborated with a well known Argentinean artist Astor Piazzolla and released some tangos. Yo Yo Ma created some songs with the jazz singer Bobby McFerrin. 2011 Yo Yo Ma got the National medal of arts; in 2011 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the next year – the Polar Music prize.
