Sun Bowl Stadium has been the home for the University of Texas at El Paso football program since 1963. The venue has also hosted the Hyundai Sun Bowl Game since the same year.The venue had initially the capacity of 30000 but thanks to expansions it is possible to house over 51500 fans for the game day.For basketball UTEP Miners tickets, one needs to visit the Don Haskins Center as that’s where the Miners play their home games. The arena can accommodate over 12000 people for game nights and it’s been serving the university since 1977.

About UTEP Miners

University of Texas at El Paso founded its football program in 1914 and basketball one was added in 1922. Initially competing as independent, the university joined its first conference in 1935. Currently the Miners are members of West Division in Conference- USA, NCAA Division I (FBS for football).The school’s official mascot is Paydirt Pete, that is a student dressed as a prospector reflecting school’s nickname. The colours by which the school is recognised are dark blue, orange and silver.The Miners’ main rivals are New Mexico, Colorado State and New Mexico State.Football program at UTEP brought two conference titles to the school while having an all- time record of 385-564-28 and 14 Bowl game appearances under their belts.

UTEP’s first bowl game was a blowout loss to Hardin- Simmons in 1937 at the Sun Bowl which the Miners took part in 8 times winning 5 of these. The school’s latest game was a loss to Utah State in 2014 at the New Mexico Bowl. The Miners haven’t won any other Bowls beside the Sun one and their combined record is 5-9 from the Bowl games.There have been some NFL players selected during draft from the UTEP. One of them was, first rounder, fifth overall pick Fred Carr.Carr, was called “probably the best overall linebacker in school history”. He played 9 seasons for the Packers and he was selected to three Pro Bowls, named Pro Bowl Co- MVP in 1970 and he never missed a regular season game during his career.Basketball at UTEP was more successful than football program as the Miners brought NCAA tournament championship to the school, in 1966.UTEP took part in 17 NCAA tournaments and they were conference tournament champions 5 times, they also claimed 9 conference regular season titles.The university produced a couple of Basketball Hall of Famers in Don Haskins and Nathaniel Archibald.

Haskins, was a head coach of UTEP for over 30 years and he led the 1966 team to the championship. During his tenure at the university he only suffered five losing seasons and he led the UTEP to 17 seasons that resulted in 20- plus- wins.Archibald, played point guard in NBA for 15 seasons including two longer stints with the Royals/ Kings and the Celtics where he won his only NBA championship.Archibald was 7 times NBA All- Star, NBA All- Star MVP, NBA scoring champion and assist leader in the same season (1973) and he was also named to NBA’s 50th Anniversary All- time Team.

Despite not being a big or very famous university, UTEP managed to put itself out there thanks to basketball championship team and some good athletes the school had produced through the years.
