University of Nevada, Las Vegas uses Sam Boyd Stadium as the home venue of their football program, UNLV Rebels. The venue has been in use since 1971 where the Rebels moved in. USA Seven Rugby tournament takes place at the stadium annually since 2010 and Las Vegas Bowl has been held at the venue every year since 1992. There are over 35000 seats available with a possibility of expansion to 40000 if the demand for UNLV Rebels tickets is huge.Basketball at UNLV is hosted at the Thomas & Mack Center, a venue that first opened in 1983 and is under a renovation as of 2016. About UNLV Rebels

The school began its football program in 1968 and a basketball one, a year later. UNLV began competing in Division II and currently they are members of West Division of Mountain West Conference, NCAA Division I (FBS for football).The mascot of the university is a costumed mountain man known as “Hey Reb!” and the colours representing the school are scarlet and grey. The main rival of the Rebels is Nevada Wolf Pack.Football program has not managed to gather a lot of momentum since its inception and the Rebels were once conference champions, in 1984 a title that was vacated in 1994. UNLV has an all- time record of 221-262-4 and they appeared in four Bowl games, beginning with a winning appearance against Toledo at the California Bowl.

To date, the only loss that Rebels experienced at a bowl game was, the most recent one in 2014, against North Texas at Heart of Dallas Bowl.The university has produced some professional football players and some of them had settled in NFL, namely Randall Cunningham, a second round pick of 1985 draft quarterback who spent 17 seasons in NFL, most of which as a member of Philadelphia Eagles.Cunningham was four times Pro Bowler, three times NFL MVP by various agencies, UPI NFC Player of the Year, Pro Bowl MVP and Eagles Hall of Fame inductee.Basketball at UNLV has much more to talk about as the Rebels were NCAA tournament champions in 1990 and they reached the Final Four stage three more times, last one in 1991.UNLV went to 18 NCAA tournaments and they have been conference tournament champions 11 times and they won conference regular season title 12 times.

One of the most accomplished Rebels that played in NBA was former overall number one pick of 1991 draft, Larry Johnson who played in NBA for 11 seasons, five in Charlotte and six in New York.Johnson was NBA Rookie of the Year, NBA All- Rookie First Team, All- NBA Second Team and two times NBA All- Star. After retiring he finally came back to Knicks as a basketball and business representative overlooking players’ development.University of Nevada, Las Vegas hasn’t got a very long history or plenty of titles to boast about but there have been several Rebels that settled into pro leagues in the past.
