About Oregon State Beavers

Football program was established at the Oregon State University in 1893 and basketball was added in 1901. The university is a member of North Division in Pac- 12 Conference, NCAA Division I.

Benny Beaver serves as the university official mascot and its first use as a mascot has been documented in the 1940s. The colours that the Beavers are recognised for are black and orange.

Oregon State University’s main rivals are Oregon Ducks, Washington State Cougars and Washington Huskies.

The Beavers football programs have claimed five conference championships and have an all- time record of 514-550-50. The university took part in 17 Bowl games starting from 1940 Pineapple Bowl win against Hawaii. Their first lost Bowl game came in 1957, during their fourth appearance and it was a loss to Oregon State at Rose Bowl. To date the Beavers are 11-6 in Bowl games and their last appearance was at Hawaii Bowl in 2013 resulting with a win against Boise State.

The college produced one Heisman Trophy winner in Terry Baker, a quarterback, who was drafted first overall in 1963 NFL draft by LA Rams.

Baker spent three seasons with the Rams and hasn’t even thrown a touchdown pass in NFL.

There have been quite a few Beavers who settled well in NFL and that includes running back, Steven Jackson who’s been playing in NFL since 2004. He spent most of his NFL career playing for the Rams. To date, Jackson was chosen to three Pro Bowls, he was NFC rushing leader in 2009 and he was named Rams MVP three times. Jackson also belongs to 10000 rushing yards club as well as being the Rams franchise all- time rushing yards leader.

Basketball at Oregon State University claimed two appearances at the NCAA Final Four stage and in general the Beavers went to 17 NCAA tournaments, only once though (in 2016) in the XXI century.

To date the university claimed 12 conference regular season championships. There have been over 20 players from the school that got to play in an NBA game and that includes players such as Gary Payton, a charismatic point guard, who won NBA title playing for Miami Heat in 2006.

Payton spent majority of his career playing for the Seattle Supersonics and he was nine time All- Star, NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1996 as well as NBA steals leader the same year among many other accomplishments.

Oregon State University has not had plenty of team success through the years but many players who were part of the programs made it into pro leagues after leaving the university.
