Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field is the home for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The venue has been hosting football games since 1913 and due to several expansions the stadium can welcome over 55000 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets tickets owners.
The venue had witness one of the craziest football games ever when Georgia Tech handed Cumberland College a proper whopping by winning 222-0 back in 1916.
To get a fix for basketball needs Georgia Tech supporters go to McCamish Pavilion, where there is over 8500 seats available for the Yellow Jackets supporters. The arena has been serving the university from 1956 to 2011 and then after reopening in 2012 to the date.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football program arrived to the university in time for 1892 and basketball put it foot down in 1906. The college is located in Atlantic Coast Conference, NCAA Division I (FBS for football), Coastal Division.
The Yellow Jackets’ colours are old gold and white and their mascot is named Buzz, an anthropomorphic yellowjacket. The colleges’ main rivals are Georgia Bulldogs, Virginia Tech Hokies and Clemson Tigers.
The Yellow Jackets football program has been a successful one in creating teams as well as individual accomplishments. The college won four national titles and there are three that are unclaimed. They had won 15 conference titles and 3 division titles while appearing in 43 Bowl games bringing a combined record of 24-19, although last ten appearances resulted in only two wins.
The university produced plenty of lauded players and coaches including John Heisman for whom the Heisman trophy is named. Their most known players include pair of wide receivers Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas among many other players that play and had played in the league.
Johnson, 2nd overall pick of 2007 Draft holds NFL record of single- season receiving yards record with 1964, had played in five games when he caught passes worth over 200 yards which is also NFL record.
He belongs to 10000 receiving yards club as well as being the fastest to get there. He led the NFL in receiving yards twice, he also was twice NFC leader in receiving touchdowns. Among 6 Pro- Bowl nominations the only thing that he might be missing is a championship ring.
Thomas on the other hand already has a championship ring that he won with the Broncos. Drafted in first round by Denver based team he set few franchise records including one for 1619 receiving yards in a season, or most 100 yard receiving games.
He was chosen to three Pro Bowls, twice he was named to Second Team All- Pro and he was AFC receiving touchdowns leader in 2013.
Basketball program produced 16 NCAA tournament appearances, two of which resulted in the Final Four and one led them to becoming the runner ups. The Yellow Jackets had won four conference tournament titles and four conference regular season championships.
The programs produced some NBA players that reached the very top winning NBA finals, including players like Chris Bosh who won two titles playing for the Miami Heat. He was named to NBA All- Star Game 11 times and he is Toronto Raptors all- time leading scorer as well as being gold Olympic medalist.
Despite football’s attempts at taking the importance, the basketball programs have done their best to keep up and field competitive teams made out of great individual athletes.
