The Rams are located in Mountain West Conference in NCAA Division I (FBS for football), Mountain Division. The college’s main rivals are Colorado Buffaloes and their rivalry is named Rocky Mountain Showdown and it dates all the way back to 1893. Wyoming Cowboys and Air Forces Falcons are other well known Ram’s rivals.

The football program has amassed 15 conference titles and took part in 14 Bowls holding 7-7 combined record. They have been to three consecutive Bowls in last seasons and their last win fell in 2013 against the Washington State Cougars in New Mexico bowl.

There has been quite a lot of players coming from the program to NFL and making careers there, most recently players like Crocket Gillmore come to mind. The tight end joined the Ravens via draft in 2014 and made PFF All- Rookie team in 2014. To date he caught five touchdown passes for his club.

Most known Ram among the NFL is Jack Christiansen who played safety/ return specialist for seven seasons in Detroit. As a Lion Christiansen was picked to five Pro Bowls, he was named First Team All- pro six times and he was NFL champion three times before the Super Bowl era. After retiring he went into coaching career first in colleges and later as a supporting coach in the NFL.

Basketball programs of the Rams have traveled to 10 NCAA tournaments in their history and twice they had broke into the Sweet Sixteen with their last appearance happening in 1969.

They had also won conference tournament championship and two conference regular seasons championships.

There have been 21 players that ended up being drafted by NBA team. Most recently Colton Iverson and Jason Smith joined the Rams’ ranks of players that joined NBA team.

Colton drafted by Indiana Pacers in second round of 2013 year is yet to play his game in NBA as after being drafted by the Pacers he was traded to Celtics where he joined their summer league and then went to Europe.

Smith was drafted in first round of 2007 draft by the 76ers and he went onto playing for few NBA teams. Two times First- team All- MWC is yet to really contribute heavily into his team’s end results.

Perhaps the Rams’ programs are more driven academically or perhaps their athletes reach their peaks in different disciplines but as history shows there is way to pro leagues out of Colorado State, especially in football.
