The War Memorial Stadium nicknamed “The War” has been used by the University of Wyoming football program since 1950. There were Super Bowl champions among the former players of the University of Wyoming including Jerry Hill, a running back who played for Baltimore Colts for 10 seasons, contributing to their win in Super Bowl V and Jay Novacek, six round pick of 1985 draft who played in NFL for 12 seasons mainly as a tight end.His success came in second part of his career while playing for the Cowboys. He was selected to Pro Bowl five times and he was a three time Super Bowl champion.Basketball program at the college was credited with Helms championship in 1934 and they won NCAA tournament in 1943. The Cowboys went to 15 NCAA tournaments including four trips to the Elite Eight round outside of their championship run.University of Wyoming was three times conference champions and 21 times they claimed conference regular season title.

One of the better known Cowboys was Ken Sailors who popularised the jump shot as an alternative way of the two handed flat footed set shot.From former Cowboys who reached NBA Theo Ratliff is one of more decorated players.Ratliff played 17 seasons in NBA and he was three times the leading blocker in the league, he was named to All- Defensive Second Team twice and once he earned NBA All- Star nomination. He also was a good medallist in FIBA World Championship for under 21 playing for the team USA.There might not have been many big names that left the university and settled well in the pro leagues but in the end the college can’t complain about their team success as well as developing potential big league athletes.
