About USC Trojans

University of Southern California established its football program in 1888 and basketball was added nearly 20 years later in 1906. The Trojans are members of South Division in Pac- 12 Conference, NCAA Division I (FBS for football). The university’s mascot is a live horse that goes by the name of Traveler which was taken from Robert E. Lee general’s horse. Colours of the school are cardinal and gold. Trojans’ main rivals are Notre Dame Fighting Irish, UCLA Bruins, Stanford Cardinal and California Golden Bears.Through its history, Trojans football program has done extremely well capturing 11 national championships, 38 conference titles, 1 divisional championship while having all- time record 813-333-54 and 52 Bowl games they took part in, including 32 Rose Bowl games  out of which 24 resulted with a win, both college records. To date, the Trojans are 33-19.

The university has produced the most NFL draftees with nearly 500 players reaching the NFL dream. There were 12 Trojans who became Pro Football Hall of Famers and 7 Heisman Trophy winners. It is very hard to choose one player from the past that gives the spirit of the school as there were so many great athletes and coaches such as Pete Carroll or Mike Holmgren, both of which went to two Super Bowls with their teams and led them to the Super Bowl championship.Basketball program at USC, has done its best to keep up with such high expectations set by football program and the Trojans have two appearances in the NCAA Final Four to show off for their efforts.USC have gone to 17 NCAA tournaments and once they were conference tournament champions as well as claiming seven conference regular season titles to date.Despite the lack of team success the university produced Naismith Basketball Hall of Famers in Tex Winter and Bill Sharman among many others.

Winter is best known as the innovator of the triangle offense and his most fame come from times towards end of his coaching career when he became assistant coach to Chicago Bulls after around 30 years of head coaching duties. With Bulls he helped Phil Jackson to put the triangle offense to good use leading Chicago to 6 NBA titles and then he followed Jackson to Los Angeles where he helped Lakers win three NBA championships.Sharman, spent 12 seasons as NBA player, most of which he spent with Celtics where he was four time NBA champion, eight times NBA All- Star, including NBA All- Star MVP.He was also succesful as a head coach, winning NBA, ABA and ABL championship, while also winning NBA and ABA coach of the year awards. His success carried on in the role of an executive where he won five NBA championships.University of Southern California is a great place for athletes and strategist as the history shows plenty of great players and coaches had led successful careers after leaving the college doors.
