About Toronto Raptors

Toronto Raptors joined the NBA in 1995 as the league’s expansion into Canadian market. The franchise was established along with the Vancouver Grizzlies and after the Grizzlies moved to Memphis the Raptors became the only Canadian-based NBA franchise.

The Raptors are yet to make a really big impact within the NBA; the team struggled initially and after few years it started getting into playoffs after acquiring some talented players through drafts but the franchise never managed to establish long term core players hence the level of performance was never steady.

The team reached the playoffs in last two seasons setting franchises records in wins in regular season but is yet to have a deep playoff run.

The Raptors, that are a member of Atlantic Division in Eastern Conference, never made to the NBA finals but the team claimed three titles of the division including two consecutive titles in last two seasons.

The team’s colours are red, silver, black, gold and white and the fans enjoy some quality entertainment provided by the team’s mascot the Raptor.

The team’s head coaching duties lay in very experienced hands of Dwane Casey who spent all of his post graduate time in a coaching capacity. Casey earned his first coaching job as a 13 years-old when he coached Little League team. As an assistant Casey won NBA title with the Mavericks in 2011 and then he was hired as the Raptors coach in 2012.e

The franchise is driven by a pair of talented and young guards, DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry.

Drafted by the Raptors in first round of 2009 draft, DeRozan has been steadily improving his craft through the time spent with the team that eventually led him to have a breakout year in 2014 where he led the team to its first playoff appearance since 2008.

This well rounded shooting guard led the Raptors in points scored as well as contributing to passing game and being a deep threat from beyond the three point line.

His teammate Lowry complements DeRozan’s input by leading the team in assists, steals as well as showing a good accuracy with three pointers and from the free throw line. This experienced point guard has joined the Raptors in 2012 and since then he was one of the major contributors to the team’s advances into playoffs.
