Glass Bowl is the name of the home for the University of Toledo football program. The name of the venue came after the World War II when the stadium was renovated with many glass elements as well as the city’s main industries being a glass one, the venue was renamed to what it stands as today.There are over 26000 Toledo Rockets tickets to be had for game day, although the record attendance was set in 2001 when 36852 fans came to watch the game against Navy. The stadium has been in use since 1937.Savage Arena is where the Toledo Rockets play their basketball home games. Basketball program at University of Toledo was founded in 1915, a year before the addition of football program which did not play in years 1931 and 1943 to 1945. The Rockets had been members of few conferences before joining West Division of Mid- American Conference, NCAA Division I in the 1950s.The university mascot has been Rocky the Rocket since 1966, the university added a female version of Rocky, Rocksy in 2011. The colours representing the school are midnight blue and gold. The main rivals of the Rockets are Bowling Green State University, a rivalry dating back to 1924.

Football program at Toledo brought 13 conference titles and 6 division championships to the school. The Rockets’ all- time record stands at 502-412-24. The university took part in 15 Bowl games starting in 1969 with a win against Davidson at Tangerine Bowl. The Rockets lost their first bowl game in their fifth appearance and to date they are 10-5 in these games riding a two game winning streak.There have been over 20 NFL draft selections coming from University of Toledo, some of them were of Curtis Johnson and Bruce Gradkowski.Johnson, played nine seasons as cornerback for the Dolphins. He started 111 of 125 games and he took part in three Super Bowls, two of which he won Super Bowl ring from.Gradkowski has been in NFL since 2006, serving as a back-up quarterback for several teams. Since 2013 he’s been associated with the Steelers. To date he tossed the ball for over 4000 yards in regular season recording 24 touchdowns against 27 interceptions.

Basketball at the University of Toledo have had struggled most of the programs’ existence as the Rockets granted themselves only four NCAA tournament entries between 1954 and 1980. The Rockets won one conference tournament championship and further 8 conference regular season titles, two of which came in recently in 2007 and 2014.There’s been just over ten NBA draftees hailing from University of Toledo and only few had managed to stay in the league for some prolonged time including players such as Paul Seymour who spent most of his career playing for Syracuse Nationals where he earned three NBA All- Star selections and two All-NBA Second Team mentions.University of Toledo has not had a great success with their programs but the school has produced athletes capable of finding some lasting careers in the pro leagues.
