Darrell K. Royal- Texas Memorial Stadium is the University of Texas football program’s home. The venue was opened in 1924 and through the years it has been expanding slowly to reach current capacity of just over 100000 recently. Overall The Longhorns had 108 winning seasons out of 122 total which is another NCAA record.The school produced plenty of NFL players, even Pro Football Hall of Famers including players such as Eric Campbell, a talented running back drafted first overall by Houston Oilers.Campbell spent 8 seasons playing in NFL earning few NFL MVP awards from several agencies. He also led NFL in rushing touchdowns for two seasons and he was three years straight rushing champion as well as five times Pro Bowler. The list of accomplishments is very long but Campbell will remain in people’s memory as ”one- man demolition team” thanks to his power running style of play.
Basketball program at the University of Texas has done its best to keep up with football’s accomplishments reaching NCAA tournament 33 times. The Longhorns were 1933 Premo- Porretta champions. They reached the Final Four stage three times and they are second among Big 12 teams with all- time wins and all- time win percentage.The University of Texas claimed two conference tournament titles and they were 25 conference regular season champions, including the last three titles coming from the Big 12.One of the better known Longhorns to play in NBA is Kevin Durant, a second overall draft pick of 2007.
Durant has been playing all his career for Seattle SuperSonics/ Oklahoma City Thunder and he earned on NBA MVP award, seven NBA All- Stars, including one NBA All- Star MVP award. He was NBA rookie of the year as well as four times NBA scoring champion. He won gold medals at the Olympic Games and FIBA World Championship.The University of Texas is one of the most accomplished programs in basketball and football and it doesn’t seem like matters are about to get worse for the University that produced plenty of talent through the years.
