Neyland Stadium has been the home of the Tennessee Volunteers football team since its opening in 1921 as a venue with just over 3000 seats available. Through the years the stadium has been renovated and expanded quite regularly and nowadays it is the sixth largest stadium in the world with a seating capacity of over 102000.

About Tennessee Volunteers

Football arrived to the university in 1891 and basketball’s first season occurred in 1908. Through the years, University of Tennessee was a member of several conferences as well as being an independent school but since 1932 the Vols were a member of Southeastern Conference, NCAA Division I and since 1992 their division is Eastern one.
The Vols have a live and costumed mascot. The live mascot is a bluetick coonhound, named Smokey X and the dog leads the team on the field before each game. The school’s colours are UT orange and white.
University of Tennessee has established few rivalries through the years and these include Alabama Crimson Tide, Vanderbilt Commodores and Florida Gators.
Football program has done well historically as the Vols rank 10th in all- time won- lost record and second among SEC programs. Their home field record of winning games with 447 is the best in the college football history.
To date, the Vols have won six national titles, 13 conference championships and took part in 51 Bowl games where they compiled a 27-24 record. Their 51 games rank third in all time bowl appearances and 27 wins are good enough for sixth place among all- time bowl wins.
The school never had Heisman Trophy winner but it did produce a five time NFL MVP (NFL record) in Peyton Manning.
The very accomplished quarterback who is the only starting quarterback in NFL history to lead two different teams to Super Bowl wins took part in four Super Bowls and he did it under a different head coach each time.
Manning has set many NFL records including most passing touchdowns in career with 539 or in a season with 55. He also recorded the most wins in career with 186 and is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game.
Basketball at University of Tennessee definetly has had a lot to live up to with football programs achievements. Historically the Vols rank fifth in all- time wins among SEC programs.
The school took part in 20 NCAA tournaments and their best year was in 2010 when they reached the Elite Eight phase. The Vols were four times conference tournament champions and have won 9 conference regular season titles to date.
There are quite few notable players to play in NBA that came from University of Tennessee, including players such as Bernard King who spent 15 seasons in NBA playing for few teams.
King was a four time NBA All- Star, NBA scoring champion in 1985, two times All-NBA First Team and he was inducted into Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.
The Volunteers have left a great mark after themselves in both sports by having great team success in some years and by producing athletes who went onto having great careers in pro leagues.
