About Syracuse Orange

Syracuse University established football program in 1889 with an addition of basketball arriving to the school some time later, in 1900. Oranges have been members of Atlantic Division in Atlantic Coast Conference, NCAA Division I since 2013.
Otto the Orange plays a role of an official mascot of the university and the colours of Syracuse are orange. The main rivals of the university are Boston College Eagles, Pittsburgh Panthers and Penn State Nittany Lions.
Football program won one national championship, in 1959 and have added further five conference titles to their trophy cabinet. Their an all- time record is 697-503-49 and the Oranges went to 25 Bowl games where they compiled a record of 15-9-1.
The school produced one Heisman Trophy winner and several Pro Football Hall of Fame players.
Ernie Davis was the first African American athlete to win the Heisman Trophy. He was drafted first overall by the Redskins and immediately traded to Browns. He was diagnosed with leukemia and died at the age of 23 without ever stepping on field to play a professional football game.
The latest addition to Pro Football Hall of Fame hailing from Syracuse is Marvin Harrison who played wide receiver position for 13 seasons in Indianapolis.
He had formed a great chemistry with Peyton Manning and has set many NFL records including: most receptions in a season with 143, most consecutive seasons with at least 10 touchdown receptions with 8 and jointly with Manning, Harrison holds NFL records for passing touchdowns, passing yards, most completions between WR and QB.
Harrison was voted to 8 Pro Bowls, has one Super Bowl ring, three times voted to First Team All- Pro, NFL receiving yards leader in two seasons as well as receptions leader. He belongs to 10000 Receiving Yards Club and 1000 Catch Club.
Basketball has not been staying behind football program with two Premo- Porretta championships and one NCAA tournament title to their name.
The Oranges hold an active NCAA record of 46 consecutive winning seasons. They have been to 38 NCAA tournaments including two runner ups spots in 1987 and 1996 before finally becoming champions in 2003.
Syracuse were five times conference tournament champions and nine times they claimed conference regular season title.
One of better known Oranges in NBA is Carmelo Anthony, third overall pick of 2003 draft. He spent his first nine seasons playing for the Nuggets before joining the Knicks in 2011.
Anthony was nine times NBA All- Star, NBA scoring champion in 2013, USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year and three times Olympic Games participant winning two gold and one bronze medals for the USA team.
