Los Angeles Lakers play their home games in Staples Center, an arena which they share with quite few other professional teams including the rival, Los Angeles Clippers. The venue is the only NBA venue shared between two NBA teams. Staples Center has nearly 4 million visitors each year and host plenty of different events including Grammy Awards for which it has been the home since 2004, having it hosted for two years previously in 2000-02.

There is slightly less tickets for Los Angeles Lakers games than Clippers ones, due to some configuration changes between the teams. Outside the arena there is Star Plaza where people can find seven statues of famous sportsmen who left their mark on the city and the venue.

About Los Angeles Lakers

One of the most successful NBA franchises, Los Angeles Lakers started its existence in Minneapolis in 1947. Firstly, a member of NBL they won championship in 1948 after which the joined the rival BAA and won five of the next BAA and NBA championships after the NBA formed in 1949.

The team then moved to Los Angeles and carried on its successful journey, altogether claiming 16 championship titles and amazing 31 conference titles. 31 appearances in finals are the record whilst 16 titles are second to only the Celtics 17 championships. The Lakers are holders of the longest winning streak in NBA history with 33 consecutive wins.

The team is a member of Pacific Division in Western Conference and Lakers are a clear leader of the division claiming 23 titles whereas the rest of the teams had won it 22 times. The franchise’s colours are gold, purple and white and the team doesn’t have an official mascot.

The team is coached by former shooting guard Byron Scott, three times NBA champion as a player, with the Lakers. Scott was also named NBA Coach of the Year in 2007. He joined his old team as a coach in 2014.

The biggest star of the franchise and one of the most recognisable faces in basketball world is Kobe Bryant. Chosen in 1996 draft by Charlotte Hornets and then traded to the Lakers the amazing shooting guard has set the NBA record of most seasons spent with the same team, as he never left Los Angeles since playing first game for them in 1996.

Whilst he is not the explosive player he once was no one can discount the experience of five times NBA Champion, two times NBA finals MVP, two times NBA  scoring champion across many other extraordinary achievements including 81 scored points in a game, a second highest result in NBA history. He can share some of his wisdom with the younger players on the team like Lou Williams and Jordan Clarkson a pair of young and talented guards.

Williams joined the franchise in 2015 after being named NBA Sixth Man of the Year becoming the first member of Toronto Raptors to win this award. Very well rounded point/ shooting guard who plays very well as the first man from the bench.

Clarkson was drafted in 2014 by the Wizard and instantly traded to the Lakers where he was named to NBA All-Rookie First Team for his contributions in scoring as well as spreading the ball.
