About Kansas State Wildcats

Kansas State welcomed football in 1896 when the Wildcats football program had started with a 0-14 loss to Fort Riley. Basketball joined the football shortly after in 1902.

The college is member of Big 12 Conference, NCAA Division I and the main rivalries the Wildcats formed are with Kansas Jayhawks, Iowa State and Nebraska. Some of the rivalries are long standing ones having been played for nearly century.

The university colours are royal purple and white and the university’s mascot is Willie the Wildcat.

The Wildcats compiled an all- time record of 509-630-41 and won 6 conference championships. They have been coached by Bill Snyder for 24th season in a row. Under his lead the Wildcats have record of 193-101-1.

The college took part in 19 Bowl games winning 7 of them; all of the wins came since Snyder took over the coaching post. He is 7-9 in Bowl games with Wildcats, and he helped the program to appear in 11 straight bowl games,making it the 20th longest bowl streak in college football history.

Kansas State had at least one player drafted in the last 22 NFL drafts, making it the longest streak in Big 12 Conference.

Some of notable players hailing from Kansas State are Jordy Nelson and Darren Sproles. Both quite accomplished veterans with Nelson having NFL record of 7 touchdown catches of over 40 yards in a season, Pro Bowl nomination and Super Bowl title that he won with Green Bay Packers, and he’s the franchise record holder with 1519 yards receiving in a season.

Sproles has played for few NFL teams having the most success in his most recent team, Philadelphia Eagles where he plays currently. He was chosen to Pro Bowl twice, he led the league in punt returns two seasons (2014, 2015) and while playing for Saints he had most all- purpose yards in NFL season (2011).

Basketball programs reached NCAA tournament 28 times with some of its biggest stretches of success falling between the fifties and the eighties. The Wildcats were runner ups once, in 1951. They reached the Final Four 4 times and Elite Eight 12 times, most recently in 2010.

The university has won 9 conference tournament championships and 18 regular season titles. Most known players from Kansas State are Bob Boozer and Mitch Richmond, both found themselves inducted into Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Boozer, NBA Champion with the Bucks, spent twelve seasons playing for several NBA teams. He was also part of USA team that won gold Olympic medal in 1960 in Rome.

Richmond, won his NBA title in his last season of career, the same as Boozer. He achieved it with the Lakers. He played for 14 seasons, went to 6 NBA All- Star games and was NBA All- Star game MVP in 1995. He also won Rookie of the Year award among many other accolades during his career.

With some up and down years, the university had done some decent job in producing athletes that managed to find their way around the pro leagues.
