There is no football stadium at the Gonzaga University to go to watch football as the last time the college fielded a varsity football team was in 1941.

There are good news for basketball fans as the Bulldogs have a hoops team and their home arena is McCarthey Athletic Center that can accommodate 6000 spectators.

The venue was opened in 2004 and since then the home team holds a record of 162 wins to 13 loses including a 41 game home winning streak. There is plenty to be excited when you’re in possession of Gonzaga Bulldogs tickets.

About Gonzaga Bulldogs

Gonzaga Bulldogs had a football team between the years 1892 and 1941 with exception of two periods, one occurred between 1894-95 and the second was in 1900 to 1906.

The university suspended the football program during World War II but due to financial difficulties (experienced before that time) the football never returned and the Bulldogs ended up with record of 122-99-20 and produced couple of Pro Football Hall of Famers, in Tony Canadeo, a running back who played for the Packers and Ray Flaherty who joined him to the Hall as a head coach.

Gonzaga Bulldogs are located in West Coast Conference in NCAA Division I, their colours are navy blue, red and white and their rivals are Washington Huskies and Saint Mary Gaels.

To date the Bulldogs took part in 19 NCAA Tournaments that included 7 appearances in the Sweet Sixteen including two last seasons of 2015 and 2016. Their best results so far has been reaching the Elite Eight twice, last time in 2015.

The program has been conference tournament champions 15 times and they claimed conference regular season title 21 times. The Bulldogs also have a tradition of the Battle in Seattle game that came to life from a neutral court game at KeyArena.

In 2003 the game between the third in the country Missouri and the Bulldogs was broadcast nationally by CBS. The Bulldogs went onto winning in overtime 87-80 and since then the Zags (as the program is commonly called) have a combined record of 9-4 in these games.

There were five first round NBA picks hailing from Gonzaga. The most known is John Stockton who was drafted by the Utah Jazz and spent 19 seasons playing for them leaving a huge legacy as he led the NBA in assist for 9 consecutive seasons, he was also the league leading steals leader twice, NBA All- Time assist leader and NBA All- Time steals leader.

Stockton had been to 10 NBA All- Star games and once he was named the MVP of the game. He was also a gold medallist at the Olympic Games twice playing for the team USA but he never won the NBA championship.

There’s is a long tradition of decent basketball programs through the college’s history and players such as Stockton can serve as a good example of great athletic career coming from a small university. There are currently some players trying to establish themselves solidly in NBA and their fans might keep their fingers crossed for their futures.
