Dallas Mavericks have joined the NBA in 1980 and are tenth most valuable basketball franchise in the States according to Forbes magazine. The Mavs, as they are commonly known as have won three division titles, two conference championships and one lone NBA championship which occurred in 2011.

The franchise resides in Southwest Division of Western Conference, a division that in season 14-15 saw all its members making the playoffs, a feat that was achieved only twice in last 30 years. The team’s colours are blue, silver, black, navy blue and white and they have a couple of mascots, Mavs Man and Champ a personification of a friendly horse.

Rick Carlisle holds head coaching duties and he’s been with the team since 2008 and led the Mavs to championship in 2011. He was also voted NBA Coach of the Year in 2002 when coaching Pistons and as a player he won a championship too, playing for the Celtics in 1986.

The franchise’s face is Dirk Nowitzki, hailing from Germany power forward who was drafted by the Bucks in 1998 draft and immediately traded to Dallas where he played ever since and where he earned many awards for his outstanding play including NBA Finals MVP, NBA MVP, chosen to NBA All-Star game 13 times, leading the Mavs all-time games played, rebounds and points scored, he was also named German Sports Personality of The Year 2011. Quite a resume topped by being the highest scoring foreign-born player in NBA history.

Nowitzki’s supporting cast have joined him recently as Deron Williams, Wesley Matthews and Zaza Pachulia joined the team during the offseason in 2015.

Williams, three times NBA All-Star point guard had been a member of the USA national team winning two gold Olympic medals. He’s known for being versatile as he became the first player in NBA history to record 20 points and 10 assist or over in 5 games in the row during a playoff series.

Matthews, a shooting guard known by the name “Iron Man”, a nickname given to him by fans knowing his willingness to play through pain will deliver some consistency in shooting, especially from behind the three point line as he had proved it in the past having some remarkable runs of three point scoring. And Pachulia will be the big body next to Nowitzki, providing some relief in scoring as well as grabbing rebounds something that comes quite naturally for this very talented and hardworking center from Georgia.
