“Fun Home” is a theatre play that was adapted by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori and shown to people in 2013 at The Public Theatre; it is the name of Alison Bechdel – an American writer who published the comic book “Fun Home” in 2006. The book talks about problems ad difficulties the modern society face. The writer uses satirical approach and adds comic view on the issues. But when the book was released in the theatre is was a sensation. This was the first time when topics, as suicide, sexual orientation, emotional abuse and gender roles are paid attention to. Moreover, the play is also concerning the role that literature plays in understanding oneself and the surrounding people. The main character of the play is Alison Bechdel who is a girl to father gay. It is an unusual phenomenon for other children. The girl tries to find out all secrets of such life, what is special of being a gay and how to live in a society that denies your way of life? “Fun Home” is the first musical with a lesbian protagonist that was shown in Broadway. Actually speaking, though the audience was conscious about the topic of the performance, it was amazed while watching the play. Nobody has imagined that the music will so realistic. The actors play fantastically! Each of them knows how to express the thoughts and attitudes of the character that play. But “Fun Home” was both praised and criticized. But still the theatre performance became the finalists of Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2014. After “Fun Home” was releases in Broadway the play achieved the high place in Tony Award for Best Musical. Today the musical is popular all over the world, because it speaks about unavoidable problems in society that each one may once face.
