About Boston College Eagles

Boston College Eagles came to life in 1893 when the football team took part in their first season. Basketball arrived here a bit later, in 1904 but it took some long time for fan’s support to kick in.

The college is located in Atlantic Coast Conference in NCAA Division I (FBS for football). The college’s colours are maroon and gold and their mascot is a bald eagle that goes by the name of Baldwin. Their main rivals are Holy Cross, Syracuse and Notre Dame.

The football team won one national title (1940) and one conference title (2004). To their trophy display the Eagles can add three divisional titles.

The Boston College went to 24 Bowl games and had won 13 games there to 11 loses. Between the years 2000-2007 the Eagles had won 8 consecutive bowl games and visited 12 bowl games consecutively.

With fair share of some team success there is quite a lot of Eagles who made it into NFL. The program is well known for producing high quality offensive linemen which earned them a nickname ‘O-Line U’. The most accomplished offensive linemen from Boston College are Tom Nalen and Ron Stone.

Nalen won two Super Bowls with Denver Broncos along five nominations to Pro Bowl and being named three times All-Pro.

Stone started his career in Dallas and in first years he won two Super Bowls with the team, later on in his career he was chosen to three Pro Bowls playing for the Giants. He was also named to All-Pro twice.

Currently there’s quite a few Eagles among the NFL players, most notably Matt Ryan and Matt Hasselback.

Ryan plays quarterback for the Falcons and he led the NFL in completion percentage in 2012, he was named the offensive rookie of the year 2008.

Hasselback retired just recently in 2016 after 18 seasons of great quarterbacking career, playing mostly for the Seahawks in his prime leading them to a Super Bowl game. He was chosen to three Pro Bowls.

Basketball team of the Eagles went to 18 NCAA Tournaments and highest they ever reached was the NCAA Elite Eight (three times). They have won three conference tournament championships and four regular season championships.

There wasn’t many players that made a great transition into NBA ranks but few of the Eagles had good careers including Gerry Ward and Dana Barros.

Ward spent four years within the nba and he won nba championship with Chicago Bulls. Barros on the other hand spent 15 seasons in NBA playing for few teams and having the best season of his career in 1995 where he was chosen to NBA All-Star game and was also named NBA most improved player.

It appeared that Boston College Eagles have a bit better touch at developing football players than basketball ones but it doesn’t mean that their hoops crops can’t have a great pro careers.
