About Air Force Falcons
The Falcon’s first season in NCAA occurred in 1955, the university had won three conference titles. They are members of Division I Football Bowl Division and they have been members of Mountain West Conference since its creation in 1999. Their main rivals are the Army Black Knights, Navy Midshipmen and Colorado State Rams.
The Falcons colours are blue and silver and their mascot is The Bird.
The Falcons had some individual success among their players that include Beau Morgan who became the first player in the NCAA history to rush and pass for over 1000 yards in a season and he had done it twice. He also broke the NCAA single season rushing record for a quarterback.
One of the most famous Falcons to made it to the NFL is Chad Hennings who landed with Dallas Cowboys and won three Super Bowls with the team. He finished his NFL career with 27.5 sacks to his name and 6 fumbles recovered during 119 games he played in the league, while starting 72 games.
Another big name within the university that made into NFL, although without much success there was Ernie Jennings who is the Air Force’s all time leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He made onto the 49ers practice squad but never made a lot of impact in the pro league.
One of the current NFL players hailing from the Falcons is Chad Hall who was named the MWC Offensive Player of the Year in 2007. He also was a part of the 49ers who made it all the way to Super Bowl in 2013 losing to the Ravens. Hall’s recent team was the Jaguars were he was the member of the training squad.
When it comes to the basketball team of the Air Force Falcons and their accomplishments are four appearances in NCAA tournaments but their combined record is 0-4, they had won their lone Conference Championship in 2004.
The Falcons took part in National Invitation Tournament where they won three games and lost their semifinals round by a mere point to the Clemson University.
Their most known student is the well accomplished Gregg Popovich who has been coaching all of his career after leaving the college and who has been the head coach of San Antonio Spurs since 1996 and went onto winning five NBA championships with them, along being named the Head Coach of the Year three times.
